So often clients want to know how big the cooler needs to be to keep the placenta from spoiling. My typical answer is to get a cooler large enough for a six pack of beer. Frederick Memorial Hospital is where most of my clients choose to deliver. At Frederick Memorial, they place the placenta in the nice plastic container you see in the photo. I love this container, it's leak proof and not too see through so an accidental sighing of the contai by a new grandfather doesn't raise too many questions.
I also have a typical "lunch style" cooler pictured. There is plenty of room in this cooler for both the bucket and a ton of ice. And don't forget, be sure to keep that ice fresh until the placenta reaches the safety of your refrigerator.
